Jared's Birthday

Can you believe it? Jared turned 28 this year! I think this was the first year that Jared wasn't especially excited to be a year older, but he still loves the parties and the special treatment. :) For his birthday Jared got money from the parents, which he promptly used to buy video games, and I got him a much needed bike. We also went out for our first fully loaded Southern meal. We had everything from ribs, fried okra, and hushpuppies to mac n' cheese and collard greens. Jared loved every minute of it!

Also in celebration of his birth, we invited some friends over for cake. This was the first made-from-scratch cake I've ever done by myself (thanks for the recipe Kirsten!) and it turned out pretty darn well if I do say so myself. It was a two layer double chocolate fudge cake with fresh strawberries. We even had leftover glaze frosting that we used as hot fudge for sundaes. Mmm-mmm good!
