Salzburg

Thanks to the Sound of Music, I was DYING to visit Salzburg. And the birthplace of Mozart held many wonderful sights. Probably the most breathtaking site was the Arch-Duke’s Fortress overlooking the city. We hiked all the way to the top, took a tour of the fortress (and learned all about the creepy torturing tools they used), and then hiked around much of the city. The views were fantastic.

We also got to see the Abbey from The Sound of Music. We went in, humming quietly "How do you solve a problem like Maria?" to ourselves. We also visited this awesome graveyard that was literally part of the side of the mountains (that surrounded the city). There also happened to be a local carnival going on, so we joined right in and enjoyed all the local strudel.

All in all, I'd say the sights, the food, and the company were a few of our favorite things...

We went to a marionette museum and of course had to get our pictures taken. We also got to see the original marionettes from the movie, "Amadeus".

And here's Mozart's birthplace. You had to pay like $10 each to go inside. We were content to just take a pic from the outside.
This is the river in Salzburg. I loved the views. It's literally a city enclosed by mountains! So beautiful...
